{"id":11149,"date":"2010-12-17T19:18:41","date_gmt":"2010-12-18T03:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=11149"},"modified":"2010-12-17T21:35:29","modified_gmt":"2010-12-18T05:35:29","slug":"rabbit-hole-john-cameron-mitchell-2010-usa-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=11149","title":{"rendered":"Rabbit Hole (John Cameron Mitchell, 2010):  USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?author=49\" target=\"_blank\">Kathleen Amboy<\/a>.\u00a0 Viewed at the Riviera, Santa Barbara, CA.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/t2.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:lZymn9lqgRRqfM:http:\/\/img18.imageshack.us\/img18\/8566\/rabbithole2010.jpg&#038;t=1\" alt=\"\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left\" width=\"220\" height=\"325\"\/>\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0935075\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Rabbit Hole<\/em><\/a>\u00a0 is a comic book, used in the grieving process of Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) Corbett, parents of a young boy killed by a teen driver.<\/p>\n<p>Becca and Howie approach their grieving differently.\u00a0 Becca makes outward\u00a0gestures to move on, by packing up her son&#8217;s room, donating his clothes and removing his artwork from the fridge, while\u00a0Howie attends group therapy, clings to his memories and seeks comfort from\u00a0Becca.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Becca is not very comforting and is pretty much finished with the whiny parents in &#8220;group.&#8221;\u00a0 Howie resents the rejection and the coldness, and can&#8217;t understand that Becca&#8217;s heart is breaking from within.\u00a0 The two cannot connect, and so\u00a0it seems\u00a0all of\u00a0their joy and love has been deeply invested in their only child.<\/p>\n<p>Howie continues with group therapy and discovers a sense of solace in the company of Gaby (Sandra Oh), another grieving mother.\u00a0 Becca finds the company of her sister Izzy (Tammy Blanchard) and mother Nat (Dianne Wiest) almost intolerable, but instead begins a friendship with\u00a0the\u00a0sensitive\u00a0teen responsible for her son&#8217;s death.<\/p>\n<p>Jason (Miles Teller)\u00a0invites Becca to read his personal artwork in the form of a comic book, which begins her healing process.<\/p>\n<p>In a visually stunning portion of the film, the camera peruses the comic book pages\u00a0through Becca&#8217;s POV, and we\u00a0witness the start of her healing\u00a0as her heart begins to reconnect with her soul.<\/p>\n<p>Dianne Wiest is fantastic as the tried-and-true understanding mother and Eckhart is solid, but\u00a0Nicole Kidman is phenomenal as the acerbic tongued, anguish ridden mother in mourning &#8211; Kidman cannot be seen, only Becca Corbett appears.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Kathleen Amboy.\u00a0 Viewed at the Riviera, Santa Barbara, CA. \u00a0 Rabbit Hole\u00a0 is a comic book, used in the grieving process of Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) Corbett, parents of a young boy killed by a teen driver.
