I would highly suggest seeing The Chaser<\/em><\/a> due to its\u00a0method\u00a0of\u00a0suspense and great cinematography. \u00a0The screenwriters (Na Hong-jin, Hong Won-chan, Shinho Lee) developed a plot and subplots to keep you in suspense throughout the film. \u00a0The cinematographer is Sung-je Lee. \u00a0The Chaser won six awards at the 45th Grand Bell Awards.<\/p>\nThe Story starts out with an ex-cop named Joong-ho, who is in the\u00a0prostitution business and stressing over his finances. \u00a0Things don’t seem to be working out that well for him, so his attitude is very bad from the beginning. \u00a0\u00a0Due to his\u00a0desperation, he sends out one of his best girls that is ill. \u00a0He tells the girl, Mi-jin, to text him with the address as soon as she gets in the house. \u00a0The house is very creepy and is tucked away on a hill. \u00a0Mi-Jin gets to the bathroom and finds there is no reception to text the address. \u00a0She frantically looks for a window. \u00a0She finds the window but is surprised to find it\u00a0barricaded\u00a0by a brick wall. \u00a0Then she then takes a better look around the bathroom and finds a scalp with bloody hair still\u00a0attached. \u00a0The killer then opens the door and…thats all I’m going to reveal.<\/p>\n
The mystery of this film how is how is the pimp (Joong-ho) going to find Mi-jin? \u00a0There is frequent use of cell phones, which serve as a metaphor for a breakdown in communication. \u00a0The pimp constantly\u00a0tries to call Mi-jin to no avail. \u00a0Halfway through the movie, the pimp runs into the killer in a traffic accident. \u00a0The pimp did some research, for the first part of the movie,\u00a0to try to pin point her location. \u00a0The accident happened in the area, and the driver has blood on his shirt, so the pimp’s intuition says that this might be the kidnapper. \u00a0He calls the number of the person to whom he sent Mi-jin, and the driver’s phone rings. \u00a0The chase is on. \u00a0Later in the film Mi-jin gets free and tries to call the pimp, but he doesn’t answer because he is in the heat of a chase. \u00a0Again and again there is a communication breakdown, which creates frustration and suspense. \u00a0The spectator knows more than all the characters throughout the film.<\/p>\n
The cinematography and mise-en-scene work well together in this film. \u00a0There is a bathroom shot where Mi-jin is lying on the floor. \u00a0The camera is low and close. \u00a0The bathroom is dark and\u00a0extremely dingy. \u00a0I felt like I was in there with them. \u00a0The setting is a busy Korean city, where I could\u00a0definitely\u00a0\u00a0believe it would be easy to make someone\u00a0disappear. \u00a0The film starts off with a city shot and ends with a city shot. \u00a0I would\u00a0recommend\u00a0\u00a0seeing this film.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
