\"\" I came into Be Kind Rewind<\/a><\/em> with modest expectations.\u00a0 Just something interesting from someone who directed a great film once.\u00a0 What director Michel Gondry has given us is the year\u2019s worst film.\u00a0 It is an absolute piece of\u00a0garbage that only the most optimistic reviewer could find anything redeeming in.\u00a0 It is the kind of movie\u00a0that even\u00a0Ed Wood would exclaim \u201cWhat were you thinking!?\u201d<\/p>\n

When Jerry (Jack Black at his most irritating) becomes magnetized while trying to sabotage an electrical substation he accidentally erases all the videotapes in Mike\u2019s (Mos Def) uncle\u2019s video store.\u00a0 To hide this from his uncle, Mike and Jerry reshoot certain movies with a video camera, like Ghostbusters and Robocop.\u00a0 At first, this is for the benefit of the store\u2019s best customer (Mia Farrow) who is not all there mentally and does not seem to recognize that Ghostbusters now stars Mike and Jerry in a twenty minute camcorder version.\u00a0 Other people start renting Mike and Jerry\u2019s \u201csweeded\u201d versions of movies as they become something of a phenomenon in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

When you have an obnoxious Jack Black getting magnetized in an accident that is just a recipe for disaster.\u00a0 Oh yeah, he is sabotaging the substation because he thinks it is melting his brain.\u00a0 It is every bit as stupid as it sounds.\u00a0 The film asks far too much from the audience in suspending their belief.\u00a0 Maybe the demented woman would not recognize that it is Mike in tin foil instead of Bill Murray, but when normal people start lining up to rent these \u201csweeded\u201d movies it is too much.\u00a0 The film seems to count on the audience somehow finding all of this not only plausible, but funny, but it is neither.\u00a0 If handled well, the idea of remaking these films sounds like it could have been funny, but it isn’t. \u00a0Trust me on this one, this film is a\u00a0complete waste of time.\u00a0 Stay far away from it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
