{"id":17326,"date":"2012-01-05T23:43:41","date_gmt":"2012-01-06T07:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=17326"},"modified":"2012-01-06T07:19:04","modified_gmt":"2012-01-06T15:19:04","slug":"the-adventures-of-tin-tin-steven-spielberg-2011-usanew-zealand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=17326","title":{"rendered":"The Adventures of Tin Tin (Steven Spielberg, 2011):  USA\/New Zealand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by <a title=\"author archive\" href=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?author=49\" target=\"_blank\">Kathleen Amboy<\/a>.\u00a0 Viewed at Fairview Twin, Goleta, CA.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/t2.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTOGed-K7xWoBLcJnmobVUISAiSLYPB06o6VAo8CCO9PGBuH_U2\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left;\" \/>\u00a0 Although <em>The Adventures of Tin Tin began as a pre-WWII<\/em> comic strip in Europe, many today may remember the popular, and highly entertaining Canadian cartoon from the early 1990&#8217;s, produced by Nelvana.<\/p>\n<p>Spielberg&#8217;s version of <em><a title=\"imdb\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0983193\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Adventures of Tin Tin<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>closely follows the original character of Tin Tin (Jamie Bell of <em>Billy Elliott<\/em>) and his dog Snowy, but in 3D with motion capture; with real movements and gestures\u00a0by the actors,\u00a0translated digitally into animation.<\/p>\n<p>The adventure begins when the newshound\/quasi-agent\u00a0and his dog, acquire a model ship at a local flea market.\u00a0 Unbeknownst to Tin Tin, the model contains a secret parchment message\u00a0which falls under the furniture, just within\u00a0reach of Snowy&#8217;s nose,\u00a0and\u00a0minutes before\u00a0their flat is tossed and pillaged.<\/p>\n<p>Tin Tin and Snowy are soon shanghaied aboard the S.S. Karaboudjan, by the villainous Ivan Sakharine (Daniel Craig),\u00a0but partner up with the ship&#8217;s heavily plastered, Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis), a descendant of Sir Francis Haddock (a Sir Francis Drake type character).<\/p>\n<p>The three manage to escape on the high seas in a lifeboat\u00a0and end up in the Moroccan desert, where Haddock literally dries up, and hallucinates important clues leading to hidden treasure.<\/p>\n<p>Having been a fan of the television cartoon series, I eagerly anticipated a great family film and was not disappointed.\u00a0 Filled with slapstick humor, sophisticated nostalgia, and the best motion capture to date &#8211; some scenes were vividly real &#8211; this animated film was far more adventurous than the asinine <em>Pirates of the Caribbean<\/em> franchise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>The Adventures of Tin Tin<\/em> was co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, with Jackson set to direct the sequel.<\/p>\n<p>I opted out on the 3D ticket and fully enjoyed the digital effects in 2D.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Kathleen Amboy.\u00a0 Viewed at Fairview Twin, Goleta, CA. \u00a0 Although The Adventures of Tin Tin began as a pre-WWII comic strip in Europe, many today may remember the popular, and highly entertaining Canadian cartoon from the early 1990&#8217;s, produced by Nelvana.
