{"id":22103,"date":"2012-07-08T14:11:34","date_gmt":"2012-07-08T22:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=22103"},"modified":"2012-07-08T19:16:58","modified_gmt":"2012-07-09T03:16:58","slug":"ted-seth-macfarlane-2012-usa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=22103","title":{"rendered":"Ted (Seth MacFarlane, 2012):  USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by <a title=\"author archive\" href=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?author=49\" target=\"_blank\">Kathleen Amboy<\/a>.\u00a0 Viewed at CineArts @Santana Row, San Jose, CA.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/t1.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ48X3P2Tjt-zJDkHLxWlJZbwJ6IsJoPxEhd-IvqrqtKMi13a6m\" alt=\"\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left\"\/ width=\"325\" height=\"200\"\/>\u00a0A lonely boy is compelled to wish his teddy bear to life in conjunction with a falling star, when he is bullied\u00a0by neighborhood kids and in need of a best friend.<\/p>\n<p>Cuddly Teddy becomes a devoted friend and confidante, and also a celebrity, even appearing on the Johnny Carson Show.\u00a0 As the years go by, John (Mark Wahlberg) and his teddy, or <a title=\"imdb\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1637725\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>ted<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(voiced by Seth MacFarlane), stay\u00a0close and grow older, but never grow up.<\/p>\n<p>At 35 John works at a rental car agency, but has difficulty showing up on time, due to the increasingly\u00a0bad influences of ted and his fondness for drugs, beer, loose women, and T.V.<\/p>\n<p>John and ted trash-talk, break wind, guzzle beer, and are basic\u00a0blood brothers during thunderstorms.\u00a0 Live-in love Lori (Mila Kunis), becomes the fly in the ointment, when she decides it&#8217;s time for John to stand on his own two feet, and ted must move out.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly ted is able to find himself\u00a0digs\u00a0and a job,\u00a0and has the remarkable ability to impress his boss\u00a0whenever he shows bad judgment\u00a0or screws up (i.e. nailing a blond grocery clerk on top of the produce), and always manages to incur a promotion.<\/p>\n<p>The turning point\u00a0for these counterproductive characters\u00a0are\u00a0the father and son stalker-duo, named\u00a0Donny (Giovanni Ribisi)\u00a0and Robert (Aedin Mincks), who pose as &#8220;fans&#8221; of ted&#8217;s, and try to entice him to come live with them, in their creepy Norman Bates style home.<\/p>\n<p>Having zero expectations, I was shockingly entertained by several hysterical moments in this film, namely\u00a0ted&#8217;s job promotions!\u00a0 Admittedly, <em>ted <\/em>belongs to a genre of film that is strictly crude and dumb-ass, for the sake of being crude and dumb-ass, as in the antics of <em>Hangover <\/em>and <em>Hangover Part\u00a0II<\/em>,\u00a0and the lesser funny <em>Bridesmaids<\/em> and <em>Horrible Bosses.\u00a0 <\/em>The humor is based on stereo-typical people or events, which of course hold some truths that enable the writers to tap into a certain reality as we know it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s refreshing to see Mark Wahlberg, who rarely disappoints, in a comedic role, and Mila Kunis is\u00a0perfect\u00a0as his straight man.\u00a0 Special kudos must\u00a0go\u00a0to Giovanni Ribisi, for his smooth\u00a0but disturbing, chester-the-molester character.<\/p>\n<p>Written, directed, and produced by Seth MacFarlane (creator of <em>Family Guy<\/em>), there are a few lulls, but overall a disgustingly funny film.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Kathleen Amboy.\u00a0 Viewed at CineArts @Santana Row, San Jose, CA. \u00a0A lonely boy is compelled to wish his teddy bear to life in conjunction with a falling star, when he is bullied\u00a0by neighborhood kids and in need of a best friend.
