{"id":2220,"date":"2009-01-28T09:59:07","date_gmt":"2009-01-28T17:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=2220"},"modified":"2009-01-28T23:53:57","modified_gmt":"2009-01-29T07:53:57","slug":"hold-it-like-a-baby-michael-and-tina-love-2009-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=2220","title":{"rendered":"Hold It Like A Baby (Michael and Tina Love, 2009): U.S.A."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?author=49\">Kathleen Amboy<\/a>.\u00a0 Viewed at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left\" src=\"https:\/\/media.independent.com\/img\/movies\/2009\/holditlikeababy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"214\" \/> Outrageously funny is the only way to describe my reaction to an extremely low budget film that premiered at the SBMOA on Sunday night.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Wilbur Waskowicks is a local (Santa Barbara) shrink that specializes in anger management.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He has a spectrum of clients that consult him regularly and his mantra for dealing with anger is to \u201chold It Like a baby&#8221; and embrace it.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>One of his clients has a weight problem and anger issues, and desperately wants to lose the weight in order to find a good sex partner.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>She prefers surgical treatment, but the good doctor advises her to exercise and eat healthy. \u00a0After weeks of this routine with no success, she erupts in anger much like a volcano and asks Wilbur , \u201cWhy should I hold it like a baby, am I expected to nurse it too?\u201d<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Waskowicks encounters one lunatic after another, but is not above reproach himself.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He thinks nothing of seducing his married office assistant, and then dumps her immediately for someone else.<\/p>\n<p>After dealing with one \u201casshole\u201d too many, Wilbur begins to short circuit and in juvenile fashion makes prank phone calls to clients from a phone booth (so his number can\u2019t be traced) calling them an \u201casshole\u201d and then hanging up.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Foolishly out-of-control, he then pits two \u201cassholes\u201d against each other, and ends up getting shot in the ass himself.<\/p>\n<p>Invoking one with the feeling of being a fly on the wall, this ridiculous film has a running time of 1 hour and 22 minutes, of which 95% of the audience (myself included) laughed continually for 1 hour and 20 minutes!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This was the World Premiere screening and I wasn\u2019t about to miss it \u2013 I had to run up State St. from the Metro 4 screening of Dim Sum Funeral (Anna Chi, 2008) which had Q &amp; A with Anna Chi afterwards that I also had no intention of missing.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Arriving at the SBMOA at show time, I was dismayed to find such an extremely long line filled with impatient patrons. \u00a0But I got in, and I was one of the last to make it (leaving a long line behind me).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Michael and Tina Love both wrote and directed this highly irreverent comedy that was shot in and around downtown Santa Barbara.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>At Q &amp; A time my question to Michael and Tina was how did they come up with the \u201cAsshole\u201d song?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Their reply of course was \u201cover the internet.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Kathleen Amboy.\u00a0 Viewed at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Film Festival.
