I had never been to one so I didn’t know what to expect but when I got inside, I was a bit surprised. At the beginning of the panel, they started off by joking around with one another and it only got better. They kept making fun of one another and responded with hilarious remarks. Although the panel was full of comedy, there were some important questions asked. Julian Schnabel said that one piece of advice for an up coming filmmaker was to filter what you need and what you don’t need. He said it’s very important to do this because there is a lot of responsibility that comes with making a film, choose your battles. Don’t waste your time with anything you don’t need, its hard enough as it is. Another piece of advice that I thought was interesting was from Pixar director, Brad Bird. Brad said that he doesn’t like hearing maybe in regards to work. He said he can take yes and no’s but certainly not a maybe. I can see why because when someone says maybe to you in regards to work, the work really doesn’t go anywhere. I agree with Brad, it’s hard to commit and focus on a project when the project is in the grey area. Although the guys were joking around the majority of the panel, what they were saying was important and special to me.

Going to the director’s panel was very special to me.
