One of the biggest actors of the world nowadays. I think the movie is about a rich culture in Brazil and a lot of local traditions. The Secret Agent is one of the most intense and interesting films I have seen. It takes place in Brazil in the year 1977, when the country was under a strict military dictatorship. The story follows Marcelo, who is the main character, a man who is trying to escape political danger and find his young son during Carnaval. I watched this film and I felt both excited and interested because the stories was always changing and surprising all the time.

At the beginning of the movie, we meet Marcelo when he arrives in Recife hoping to meet with his son and I expected a simple chase story, but the film goes much deeper than that because it’s always good emotion to come. Instead of just showing danger and a lot of scenes of running or whatever, it also shows how Marcelo feels inside, and that is sort of fear, his worry, and his hope through all that, and also that made me feel closer to the character and care about what happens to him.

What I liked most about the film was the way it used Carnival as a contrast to the darkness of the political fear of Brazil. The bright and hot colors, music, and crowds made the dangerous parts feel even stronger because they were placed so good, also, It made the story feel more real to me because in life sometimes joy and danger happen at the same time, and combining both it was a massive good idea of the director or the producer.

Like I said before, the acting was very strong, especially from Wagner Moura who played Marcelo. I could see his emotions in his eyes and in the way he moved, also with the help of the zooming of the camera. Even though there were moments when he was quiet and I could feel his fear and love for his son, and that’s a great point. This made the character feel very real and human and real connective with the brazilian culture.

The film was so long, like almost three hours, but I didn’t get bored once. The director mixed moments of suspense and calm in a way that kept my attention. Sometimes the story was confusing, with different timelines and surprising details, but this made me think more about what was happening.

Overall, The Secret Agent made me feel a lot of different emotions. It combines history, politics, and personal struggle in a way that stayed with me after the film ended. I would recommend this movie to people who like stories that make them think and feel. It was a film that surprised me and showed me a part of history I did not know before.

Review by Yago Tolfo.
