Viewed at Mann&#8217;s Chinese theater as part of 2009 AFI Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_dRxpkiNQHIY\/Sg3RieN84QI\/AAAAAAAADKU\/ELikPylatL0\/s400\/Police_Adjective.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"190\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left\"\/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1337051\/\" target=_new><em>Police, Adjective<\/em><\/a> takes us on a psychological journey that asks where to draw the line between morality and the law.\u00a0 Christi (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1058007\/\" target=_new>Dragos Bucur<\/a>) is a cop given the task of tailing three teenagers who occasionally smoke hashish.\u00a0 His boss commands him to stage a sting operation to catch the kid that\u2019s supplying and lock him up.\u00a0 However, Christi seems to be hesitant about the ordeal.\u00a0 He feels that the law is far too harsh and that be changed soon because of all the other European countries that allow the use of hash.\u00a0 He thinks that he would deeply regret arresting and ruining a kid\u2019s life all for just for smoking some weed.<\/p>\n<p>The film is shot in very real time.\u00a0 Lots of long takes and point of view shots help us really get inside Christi\u2019s head.\u00a0 The boredom of his life helps us feel what he is feeling.\u00a0 A couple times we watch him eat an entire meal with no cuts, just one continual take.\u00a0 These long and monotonous takes may seem boring or make the audience feel uncomfortable, however, they get us thinking.\u00a0 We start to wondering what Christi is thinking about, weather he is right, or what our own morals are.<\/p>\n<p>Although Romania may seem like somewhat of a dreary setting, the cinematography displayed is amazing.\u00a0 Point of view shots of Christi watching the teenagers through fences symbolize future imprisonment.\u00a0 As Christi tails the children, we see numerous shots of one person exiting the screen then Christi entering in behind soon there after.\u00a0 Often the framing of a shot seems odd because a character is out of frame yet still heard and understood to be there.\u00a0 This is because each shot is uniquely aimed at Christi to bring you that much closer to understanding his mentality.<\/p>\n<p>Overall it is obvious why this film won awards at Cannes and the Transylvania International Film Festival.\u00a0 It is a well-crafted satire that asks us, \u201cIs the law really moral?\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Lava Farmer.
