I think it is always a bad idea to remake a classic, which I consider John Carpenter\u2019s Halloween<\/a><\/em> to be.\u00a0 So what makes Rob Zombie think he can pull this off?\u00a0 Obviously, the answer is to add gore, more gore, and, oh yeah, sex.<\/p>\nIn Rob Zombie\u2019s Halloween,<\/em> we are taken further back before the original to show what led to Mike Myers becoming the killer he is.\u00a0 We get a good look at Myers’ home life with his mom\u2019s drunk, abusive boyfriend, his teasing and sexual sister, and his stripper, (but otherwise caring) mom.\u00a0 We then get some scenes with Myers and his psychiatrist.\u00a0 Then it is off to the killing spree as Myers hunts down sexually active teenagers on Halloween.<\/p>\n Zombie does not get creative here with Myers’ past, only offering textbook explanations as to what leads him to be what he is.\u00a0 The scenes with his doctor really give us very little insight into Myers.\u00a0 After this, all Zombie offers us is more killing, but he takes all of the tension out, instead opting for gore.\u00a0 We get a front row seat to every killing with nothing left to the imagination.\u00a0 Even the sex scenes leave us nothing to think about. \u00a0With the original film, we understood that the characters just had sex.\u00a0 Now we actually get to see it.<\/p>\n My advice is to stick with the original.\u00a0 Part of the fun of Mike Myers is the mystery around him and the suspense created by Carpenter.\u00a0 Zombie hides nothing from us.\u00a0 Every cut, slash, stab is on full display for shock value.\u00a0 Not only do we know what is going to happen, but we get to see it all happen.\u00a0 I prefer the suspense.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Reviewed by Byron Potau.\u00a0 Viewed on DVD.
