{"id":8435,"date":"2010-02-22T23:31:26","date_gmt":"2010-02-23T07:31:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=8435"},"modified":"2010-02-23T07:03:59","modified_gmt":"2010-02-23T15:03:59","slug":"up-pete-docter-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=8435","title":{"rendered":"Up (Pete Docter, 2009)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Jacqueline Gomez at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival 2010.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/up.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8436\" src=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/up.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"131\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The film \u201cUp\u201d, directed by Pete Docter and co-directed by Bob Peterson, is the story of Carl Fredricksen.\u00a0 The film opens to a very young Carl meeting an adventurous young girl named Ellie.\u00a0 Carl is a very shy little boy, but Ellie is the complete opposite.\u00a0 She is adventurous, and everything but shy.\u00a0 Underneath Carl\u2019s shyness, he too is adventurous.\u00a0\u00a0 Ellie and Carl both want to be explorers, and indeed share the same role model, Charles Muntz.\u00a0 The two of these friends eventually get married, and grow old together.\u00a0 Their life long dream was to move to Paradise Falls, and live their life as explorers.\u00a0 Unfortunately, Ellie passes away before their dreams of moving to Paradise Falls becomes a reality.\u00a0 Due to Carl\u2019s neighborhood being commercialized by hip and upcoming\u00a0 businesses, Carl is forced to move out of his house.\u00a0 Tired of being lonely, and feeling the pressures of having to move, Carl decides to live his and Ellis\u2019 dream of moving to Paradise Falls.\u00a0 He does not travel in the most conventional way though, he uses tons of balloons and attaches them to his house and flies to Paradise Falls.\u00a0 Carl does not travel alone though, he meets many fun and interesting characters on the way.<\/p>\n<p>The voices that were lent to this film fit perfectly.\u00a0 Edward Asner, who plays Carl Fredricksen, is able to portray the emotions of happiness, grumpiness, and sadness with brilliance.\u00a0 Jordan Nagai, who plays Russell makes this film.\u00a0 His comedic timing is very on-point.\u00a0 You can\u2019t help but think to your self how cute Russell is and Jordan Nagai\u2019s talent shines through in this role.<\/p>\n<p>The screenplay, written by Bob Peterson who did the screenplay for \u201cFinding  Nemo\u201d, and also written by Pete Docter who wrote the screenplay for \u201cRatatouille\u201d did follow a three act structure.\u00a0 It started when Carl was young, showed him grow into an old man, and then he did reach the goal of getting to Paradise Falls.<br \/>\nOverall, this film is not your typical animated feature.\u00a0 Every age group would enjoy this film.\u00a0 I am very happy to hear this is film is nominated for an Oscar Award, because it definitely deserves to win.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Jacqueline Gomez at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival 2010.
