{"id":8438,"date":"2010-02-22T23:55:25","date_gmt":"2010-02-23T07:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=8438"},"modified":"2010-02-23T07:01:44","modified_gmt":"2010-02-23T15:01:44","slug":"crazy-art-justin-rowe-2009-usa-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=8438","title":{"rendered":"Crazy Art (Justin Rowe, 2009): USA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?author=618\" target=\"_blank\">Lea Encarnacion<\/a>.\u00a0 Viewed at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/media.independent.com\/img\/croppedphotos\/2010\/02\/03\/SBFilmmakers-Crazy-Art-Rodg_t479.jpg?6626f76dcd72edc2e28f46812c7026450162bdb2\" alt=\"\" width=\"479\" height=\"319\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Crazy Art is a local Santa Barbara documentary that follows three artists who battle mental illness and deal with living with<\/p>\n<p>schizophrenia.\u00a0 It examines their search for identity, acceptance, and recovery through their unique and thought provoking<\/p>\n<p>art.\u00a0 I found this film to be very honest and truly inspirational about living life with our conditions, whatever they may<\/p>\n<p>be.\u00a0 At this premiere, it received a standing ovation for the film.\u00a0 The director said at the Q+A that the purpose was &#8220;to<\/p>\n<p>show a human side to something people don&#8217;t really know about.&#8221; One of the artists stood out in particular &#8211; Trinaty Lopez-<\/p>\n<p>Wakefield who does not like labels for herself about anything &#8211; whether it be her style, attitude, art or illness.\u00a0 &#8220;We are<\/p>\n<p>all human beings&#8230; It is really hard to be alone in this world,&#8221; Trinaty says. The film is dedicated to Skye Campbell,<\/p>\n<p>another artist who died before making recovery, whose bones were found in the mountains of Santa Cruz.\u00a0 What struck me in<\/p>\n<p>particular about this film was the deep connection the three artists had with their artwork &#8211; and with the process of<\/p>\n<p>creating, selling, exhibiting, and how it affects them and their mental wellbeing.\u00a0 Trinaty&#8217;s son explained that his mother&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p>artworks are priceless, because it is a part and comes from the artist&#8217;s life, mind, soul, and everything that emanates from<\/p>\n<p>the person.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Lea Encarnacion.\u00a0 Viewed at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
