{"id":8454,"date":"2010-02-23T22:00:32","date_gmt":"2010-02-24T06:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=8454"},"modified":"2010-02-23T22:43:14","modified_gmt":"2010-02-24T06:43:14","slug":"julianne-moore-tribute-santa-barbara-international-film-festivals-monecito-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?p=8454","title":{"rendered":"Julianne Moore Tribute (Santa Barbara International Film Festival&#8217;s Montecito Award)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/?author=805\">Rowan-George Smith<\/a>. \u00a0Viewed at The Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbara Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/julianne_moore_3.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8460\" src=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/julianne_moore_3-241x325.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"325\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; float: left\" srcset=\"https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/julianne_moore_3-241x325.gif 241w, https:\/\/studentfilmreviews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/julianne_moore_3.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 241px) 100vw, 241px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Redheaded army brat, Julianne Moore was awarded the Montecito Award on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara.\u00a0 I had the great opportunity to attend the Julianne Moore tribute and what a treat it was.\u00a0 I was super excited to hear Julianne speak and yet, I must confess, I\u2019m not familiar with her work.\u00a0 However, I have seen a few of her films, Hannibal being one of them.\u00a0 During the interview, montages were put together of this young actresses\u2019 work, and there was so much work she\u2019s accomplished, I became intrigued to see many of the films that sparked my interest, now my Netflix queue is all Julianne Moore films.<\/p>\n<p>Julianne kept the enlightening and very engaging conversation going for over two and a half hours, and there were several moments where she\u2019d burst out with a big and memorable great laugh\u2026she is really a funny gal and loves to be goofy and just laugh.\u00a0 Julianne spoke about her childhood, and it was fascinating to learn about her background. She was born in North Carolina and is a proud army brat.\u00a0 Her father was a lawyer in the army and before she reached the age of eighteen, her family moved around about 23 times, and Julianne attended eight schools, and graduated from Frankfurt American High School in Germany.\u00a0 It was in high school, where a teacher took notice of her acting abilities and saw great potential in the young teenager and Julianne returned to the States and received her BFA in Acting, from Boston University \u2013 School of Performing Arts.<\/p>\n<p>Julianne moved to New York and worked extensively in theatre and was cast in the soap opera, \u201cThe Edge of Night\u201d and, for three years she played two half-sisters on \u201cAs The World Turns\u201d.\u00a0 Julianne positively reminisced about her time on ATWT playing two characters, which earned her a Daytime Emmy Award.\u00a0 She began receiving many supporting roles in numerous films which led to bigger parts, and her most known films, Vanya on 42<sup>nd<\/sup> Street, Todd Haynes\u2019 Safe, Nine Months, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, her break-out film Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, Gus Van Sants\u2019 remake of Psycho, The End of the Affair, Magnolia, Hannibal, Far From Heaven and The Hours, along with many more films not mentioned, paved the way for Julianne\u2019s consistent and accomplished film career.\u00a0 Some of her recent films include: Todd Haynes\u2019 I\u2019m Not There, Tom Fords\u2019 A Single Man, and Chloe.\u00a0 Chloe was included in this years Santa Barbara Film Festival line-up and, is definitely a must see Julianne Moore film.<\/p>\n<p>During the tribute, Julianne spoke about how she\u2019s learnt to read every script she receives.\u00a0 And she added, that she\u2019s not a fan of research, however she likes to make her characters as specific as she can.\u00a0 Julianne also talked about how she is attracted to story more so than character.\u00a0 She is also a writer of two children\u2019s books.\u00a0 She mentioned the new release of \u201cFreckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully\u201d, she shared her inspiration for the book and she sure is a riot when it comes to storytelling.\u00a0 There\u2019s something special about redheads, I\u2019ll say.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reviewed by Rowan-George Smith. \u00a0Viewed at The Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbara Film Festival.
