\"\"\u00a0 The\u00a0producers of the\u00a0National Treasure franchise, have\u00a0created an action film, based on the popular sequence from the 1940’s\u00a0Disney animated film\u00a0Fantasia<\/em>,\u00a0titled \u00a0The Sorcerer’s Apprentice<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Beginning\u00a0in 740 A.D., Merlin the wizard is betrayed and killed, but before he takes his last dying\u00a0breath he passes on a magical ring to his apprentice Balthazar (Nicolas Cage), who is told to find the next\u00a0sorcerer’s apprentice.<\/p>\n

As Balthazar begins his quest\u00a0through each decade, he ultimately stumbles upon a young boy named Dave\u00a0in the year 2000 that shows promise.\u00a0 Before he can fully pursue the matter, Horvath (Alfred Molina),\u00a0a nemesis from his past, is released from a nesting doll (grimhold), where he has been trapped since Merlin’s death.<\/p>\n

Battling each other, Horvath and Balthazar then\u00a0become trapped in an antique vase and are not released until ten years later when Dave (Jay Baruchel),\u00a0is fully grown and in college.\u00a0 As Horvath attempts to acquire Merlin’s ring, he destroys everything in his path, while Balthazar\u00a0hurriedly trains Dave for any possible encounter with him.<\/p>\n

After learning a few spells, Dave, who is eager to impress his childhood sweetheart Becky (Teresa Palmer),\u00a0suddenly bids the cleaning supplies\u00a0to tidy up his lab.\u00a0 One by one, each mop, broom, and bucket march from the closet and begin to re-enact the popular scene from Fantasia – <\/em>which is by far the most enjoyable and\u00a0memorable scene in the film,\u00a0one that\u00a0works well in live action.<\/p>\n

Solid acting all around, with Nicolas Cage in top form\u00a0with his unique dry wit and\u00a0a good counterpart to Alfred Molina’s Horvath.\u00a0 It’s surprisingly entertaining, not much in the way of storyline, but\u00a0a decent kid’s action film,\u00a0and one purposely created for a franchise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
