Isolated (Justin Le Pera 2012) New Guinea
Reviewed by Tobias Luvenberg. review at the Santa Barbara film festival.
This is a documentary from New Guinea. Six people went to New Guinea to make a surf movie, to find the un surfed waves and to find a place no one have ever been for surfing. The six people is from different parts of the world, but all have the same goals. There trip has just started and everyone thinks that this is going to be a trip for themselves and to find the perfect surfing spots.
The director of the movie was Justin Le Pera and the narrator was Ryan Phillippe and the surfers was Travis Potter, Jenny Useldinger, Andrew Mooney, Jimmy Rotherham and Jush Fuller.
The first problem in New guinea is that they have the civil war, and the surfers has to been extremely careful to not get all the attention because of all the killing there. They had to move quickly and fast and they had to do at night time. While the surfers looking for the perfect and un surfed waves they meet a lots of people that have fled to islands where they can be save. They tell them everything about the war, that they kill women, children and men, they don’t only kill they also steal all the resources (gold, and coal) that is on the island. Travis Potter decided that he will try everything to make the people heard and seen all over the world, so people around the world knows what is happening on New Guinea.
It took over two years for Travis to reach one of his goals by making this movie, by doing this film he could finally show big magazines, news papers and tv news what actually happening in New Guinea, in a short time the whole world knew what happens in New Guinea. But that wasn’t enough for stopping this madness, so he have been trying to make it better by doing a web site that you can log into and make a short video of your self and saying “My name is (name), Im a (occupation), and I am a isolated ambassador for peace”. If they get over 25.000 the white house has by law to take action and send the human rights crisis to west Papua.
