Motorway (Pou-Soi Cheang, 2012) Japan
Reviewed by Casey Cummings at the Metro 4 Theater, Santa Barbara
A very confusing and disoriented film. The plot was nothing special and i don’t recommend people seeing it. I saw this film in the SBIFF and felt i could have seen a better movie with my time. I had never heard of the director or any of the cast because it was a foreign film.
The first act of the film is cops chasing a getaway car and that’s pretty much the rest of the movie. The driver is a well experienced driver and tends to get away every time… of course. The film is a young rookie cop trying to chase down this getaway car and that’s the main idea. An important part that occurs is the getaway car drives in the allies and is able to make turns no one else can make, besides an older cop that’s about to retire. The rookie is forced to learn how to make these turns to catch the bad guys in the there car.
I wasn’t impressed with the film as a whole. The filming was not so great. At times the camera was bouncing around way too much to see what was going on, and the driving scenes were horrible. The was they edited these driving scenes and incorporated it with the filming was terrible. At times you could tell it was so fake I didn’t even want to watch it anymore. An example of this is the chases that occurs in the hills.
Overall I felt i should have passed on this film. Not good Filming, editing, action scenes, and even acting. I don’t recommend this film to anyone
