Producers Panel SBIFF 2014

There were seven producer at this panel and one moderator. The moderator’s name was John Horn and he was the one who asked questions to the producers. Robbie Brenner was there, who is the producer of Dallas Buyers Club and Dana Brunnetti, the producer of Captain Phillips who now is producing 50 shades of grey. The producer of Wolf of Wall Street Joey McFarland was there too.
They talked about important things to remember when working in the industry. Gaby Tana mentioned that you need to be true to what you intended to do from the beginning. Robbie Brenner said that you need to trust your co-workers. If they come with advise you should actually listen to them. He listen to his co-worker who said that they need to shoot the film without ant light, they only used available light during the film.
Charles Raven told the audience that even if a film is based on a true story we need to remember that it is still fiction. Everything in the film is not the exact story of what happened in real life. We cannot get mad because they add or leave out stuff. It is their film and it is just based on a true story, not a true story. He also said that it is important to have a connection with the audience, he wants them to feel what he intended to. He put his films in a certain way just to make the audience get emotions that they normally do not get.
I believed that Dede Gardner, producer of 12 years a slave, said the most important thing. She told the audience and the producers that no one should make a film just to make a film. If you are going to do a film you should put all your effort and love into it and really bring out your message. I have seen her film and found it really great. The actors were amazing and the story is incredible. When I found out that she was the one who said that it all made perfect sense. She wanted to show people what happened before and how if affected people and their families.
