We Are The Best is about three teenage girls from Sweden (1982) that refuses to believe that punk-rock is dead. The movie is based on a graphic novel that is written by Lukas Moodysson (the director) wife Coco Moodysson.
I saw We Are The Best at Santa Barbara Film Festival. It’s directed by Lukas Moodysson, one of the best directors in Sweden. Liv LeMoyne (Hedvig), Mira Grosin (Klara) and Mira Barkhammar (Bobo) are the three main actors.
Klara and Bobo are two teenage punk-rock girls that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the kids in school because the dressed weird and where the only punk rockers in school. Klara and Bobo where hanging out at the local youth club one day. A band called Iron Fist (a local teenage band) where playing loud heavy metal rock in the youth clubs rehearse studio. Bobo and Klara didn’t like that so they decided to book the studio at the same time that Iron Fist where playing. Without any knowledge of playing any kind of instruments, they formed a band. Later on they recruited Hedvig (a Christian, lonley girl from school who knew how to play intruments) to their band and their friendsship grows.
Klara, Hedvig and Bobo are meeting up with another local teenage punk-rock band and Klara and Bobo are falling for the same guy in that band. A small fight breaks out, but their friendship over wins everything. Klara, Hedvig and Bobo gets the oppretunity to performe their song “Hata Sport” (Hate Sport) in the neigbhor town Vasteras.
We are the best is a comedy for the whole family. Brilliant dialog between the three teenagers makes this movie hilarious and a must-see.
