Noble (Stephen Bradley, 2014) Ireland
NOBLE
I saw Noble (directed and written by Stephen Bradley) at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. Its a true story based on the life of Christina Noble (played by Deirdre O’Kane) , a middle age woman that went to Vietnam fourteen years after the war with a dream to make a difference.
Noble is a touching story that will hopefully inspire many others to do the same thing that Christina did. Christina really showed that one person can make a difference.
The movie starts of with a series of flashbacks from Nobles childhood that interwaves with her Vietnam journey. It shows us her life in the early 40s as one out of 6 kids with her sick mother and her alcoholic dad. After her mother died, her father lost custody of his childern and Christina got sent to a institution run by nuns.
After Noble got released from the intitution she got a job in commercial laundry. A brutal rape leads to Christina getting pregnant. The institution takes her in once again after that. Christinas newborn baby got put up for adoption against her will by the nuns. Christina escaped Ireland for Birmingham to start over. She found a boyfriend there whom later turned out to be an asshole. During this time with him, she started to have dreams about Vietnam and focused particularly on victimized children and the war. These strong visions made her go to Ho Chi Minh City. Without knowing actually why she is there, she finds herself in an abandoned building filled with orphans. Christina decides to make a difference
Noble is a unique story that is totally worth your time. I think everybody should see this movie and see what is going on in other parts of the world, and hopefully this movie will inspire more people to do the same thing that Christina did.
