Outstanding Director Award with David O’Russell.
Attended by Dennis Hansson at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
David O’Russell is mostly known for his three latest movies The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, all featuring some of Hollywoods top actors, including Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Melissa Leo, and many more. The fact that he has been nominated for Best Director at the Academy awards for three consecutive films, proves that he belongs among the absolute best in the business. Not only that, but he has also demonstrated his ability to get the absolute best performances out of his actors, proven by the fact that these last three films has received 11 Academy award nominations, including two wins for the Fighter (Christian Bale and Melissa Leo won the award).
The award ceremony, or what you want to call it, started of with executive director of the film festival, Roger Derling, holding a welcoming speech. He greeted everyone welcome to the Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbaras own palace of cinema as someone so nicely said it, and continued with introducing the man of the hour, Mr. David O’Russell, and the work that has got him to where he is today. When David finally entered the stage, the theatre was filled with rounds of applause for a couple of minutes, followed by a very interesting and entertaining interview with him, still moderated by Mr. Derling.
David O’Russell is obviously a guy who likes to be in charge, which was noticed during this interview that started of somewhat in chaos, as O’Russell kept throwing out hilarious comments and being funny in general. It was a very entertaining and interesting interview, were we got closer to David, as he spoke on his point of view on making films. He told the story about his bipolar son which was the reason for making Silver Linings Playbook, and since it is one of my favorite movies the past few years and that I didn’t know this fact, made me even more appreciative of his work. And to hear one of the best in the business thoughts on film and the process in which he works is really interesting, since you get better picture and understanding in the greatness of these great directors and what differs them from the rest.
Keep writing movies David, please!
