Chu and Blossom

Chu and Blossom was the first movie a saw at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. Chu and Blossom is funny and simple movie about a miss-matched friendship between Joon Chu (Charles Chu, who also directed and wrote it) and Butch Blossom (Ryan O’Nan).

Chu and Blossom is about an Korean exchange student the goes to the U.S to study one year abroad. With communication problems and having a hard time to adapt to the other students, he meets Butch, a crazy, funny and weird character that is all about showing his emotion and feelings trough art. Joon and Butch are completely different persons, but somehow they manage to build great miss-matched friendship. Joon also meets a girl named Cherry Swade that he later falls for.

With pressure from his parents in Korea to end the friendship with Butch and Cherry and only focus on school. Joon now has to decide to either follows his parents wishes or his own dreams of getting to do exactly what he wants without any pressure from home. Will he make the right one? Dom, dom, dooooom!!

The acting is what i think is the strongest part of this film. The whole movie is built around this two different characters. I think both Ryan O’Nan and Charles Chu did a good acting job. Especially Ryan, who i think played his character very well.

Chu and Blossom is an charming movie that will put a smile on your face. I liked that whole story and their weird relationship. I would recommend the movie to my friends for sure.
