Bustin’ Down The Door (JeremyGosch 2008) USA

Bustin’ Down The Door was absolutely the best film at the film festival in my opinion. Bustin’ Down the Door is going to go down in History as one of the great surfing documentaries like The Endless Summer, The Endless Summer II, and Step Into Liquid. The film Bustin’ Down the Door is inspiring as well as a overall awesome film.

In 1975 five young surfers came to Hawaii and surfing was shaken to its core. These surfers were Shaun Tomson, Montecito Resident of Santa Barbara and Pipeline Master. Peter Townend who was the First ever World Champion of surfing. Mark Richards who was the Kelly Slater of his time and once had the title of greatest surfer of all time. Ian Cairnes who has been a professional surfer, coach, directer, and promoter of surfing. Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholemew, another world class surfer who in his own words claims that this new crew had Busted down the doors of surfing.

This group of young surfers from Australia and South Africa sacrificed everything and put it all on the line to create a sport, a culture, and an industry that is today worth billions of dollars and has captured the imagination of the world. These surfers came to Hawaii in 1975 with a new approach to surfing and a crashed into a culture that was not ready for revolution. Surfing was never to be the same again and these young men made surfing into a profession to where one can make hundreds of thousands of dollars surfing yet when these surfers came to Hawaii in 1975 they made little to nothing.

I really can’t say enough to do justice for this movie. This film captured the heart and sole of what dedication is to a person. One could look at this movie as not only a great surfing film, but as a movie about if you have a goal in life, hard work and dedication can help you meet that goal. This movie is an absolutely must see for any one who enjoys surfing, and even can be entertaining to one who has never stepped foot in the ocean.
