Short Programs II (Peter Chung, Jason Yim, Adam Cutter, Angela Trevino, Harun Mehmedinovic 2007) USA

This is my second attendance of the Santa Barbara Film Festival. I usually see several films that I hear a buzz about and usually thats about it for my film festival experience. Being in the Film Festival studies class though I noticed that there were many short programs so I decided that I should check some of them out. I went to a viewing of the short programs two showing.

I was surprised that they were actually entertaining and well made. The short programs two had five films that ranged from five minutes to twenty minutes in length. My favorite of the short films was the showing of a 13 minute film called Mine. Mine was about a soldier who wakes up in the desert and learns that he is on a buried mine. Because of this he is stuck there until a small boy comes along and switches places with him. It was a well shot and inventive short film.

Another short film during the showing that I enjoyed was the short film called Folds. This film was about a girl who folds origami and the origami figures become a voodoo like object where you can do whatever you want to the person. It was a little twisted for my liking, but nicely made and great camera work.

Overall I would say I liked the Short programs, but enjoy feature length films the best. The short films are entertaining yet so short that once you start to get into the film its over.
