Reviewed by Frances Rozhko. Viewed at the AFI Filmfest, Arclight Hollywood, CA.
The Good, The Bad, and the Weird by Kim Jee-Woon was a very funny film about three men on an everlasting search for a treasure map. As most of their efforts become pointless they become more and more aggravated with the whereabouts of this certain map. This film was especially interesting and humorous. As i viewed this film at a late screening i awoke as the scene started in an upbeat, loud and exciting pace. It was already interesting within the first 5 minutes. The three main characters ” The good, The bad, and The Weird, stood out to me most. Each man was so drastically different it was good variation to watch.
I viewed this film in the Arclight theatre at a pretty late time. Although i was tired from the day this movie really seized to wake my senses and let me let a couple laughs our before the night was over. Kim Jee-Woon I feel did a really good job in making these three main characters so drastically different from one another. The good guy was a cowboy who seemed to have a good personality, although he sort of held The Weird hostage he was still very sincere about it and acted as though they were friends. The Weird was my favorite character, he was the most humorous and made many mistakes. He did everything wrong most of the time which made his character hysterical. The bad cowboy was very fierce, his character interesting me. He was very slick and sly and his physical appearance played on that as well.
I enjoyed the western feel of this film i thought that it played well with the story and made it interesting. I also enjoyed the different filters throughout the film they really set the scene and made it look colorful and different. I feel like this this could be compared to a Jacki Chan film. The overall action of the film reminds me of a similar feel. The characters also remind me of him as well.
I recommend this film to anybody who enjoys a good laugh, this film had a lot of different moments everywhere from funny to mysterious and sometimes even scary.Anyone who likes action films as well, this film had a good amount of action as well.
