One of the shining moments of this years film festival was the opportunity to see Exit Through The Gift Shop on the big screen. The film has bee nominated for a well deserved best documentary Oscar.I myself am a huge fan of street art. This film gives us the opportunity to  peer through a window into Banksy’s world, and ride along as he creates some of his most defining pieces of art. This is why I love Documentary film making. To see some of today’s most prolific street artists as they rise and define a movement.

The film stars Banksy, one of the worlds most well known street artists, the infamous Shepard Fairey as well as a host of other famous street artists, and then there is Theirry Guetta, a french born LA based business man, that is thrust into the emerging world of street art. Simply by wanting to film the events, Theirry becomes obsessed with the world of street art, and it completely changes the course of his life. After his failed documentary, Theirry sets out to make his mark on the street art world, so Banksy turns the camera on the funny little french man. With Banksy’s praise and blessing Thierry stars to make stencils of himself and plasters them all over downtown LA. Giving birth to Theirry’s new persona, Mr. Brain Wash or MBW. Once “established” as a true street artist he rents a huge commercial space and starts to mass produce his art work. The film brings up some great issues about art and what it takes to become a truly successful artist, as well as providing us with fantastic imagery and a great ansamble of real life characters.
