The Samaritan stars Samuel L. Jackson, Luke Kirby, and Ruth Negga. It was written by David Weaver and Elan Matsai and directed by David Weaver as well. The Movie is from Canada and was filmed in Havana, Cuba and Produced by H2O Motion Pictures and Middle Child Films Inc. Is a Thriller and Relates to another movie with Samuel L. Jackson known as Jackie Brown.
The Samaritan is a thriller about a man named Foley (Samuel L. Jackson) who just spent the last twenty, twenty five years of his life in jail for murdering his best friend. When he gets out of a jail all he wants to do is forget about his past life move on and stay out of jail, but as they say no one really ever gets a fresh start. Soon as he gets back to his hometown his past quickly starts to come back and haunt him.
On Foley’s (Samuel L. Jackson) second night out of prison he returns home to find some one sitting in his pitch black living room. He then comes to find out that this is no random person, it’s Eric (Luke Kirby) the son of his best friend whom he murdered some twenty years ago. The son Eric tells Foley he is here to help him and just wants to take him out for a drink, when Foley sais no the son Eric of his best friend tells him he owes him at least this, so Foley goes and they end up at Eric’s night club. While Foley is waiting in the main part of the club waiting for the son to handle some business in his office a young lady named Iris (Ruth Negga) (who plays a big roll later on) approaches him, and is instantly on him. Foley at first views her as a low life whore and pretty much tells her to f*** off. Foley is getting ready to leave the club when he see’s his best friends son Eric and his boss beating some person half to death than eventually kills him. Foley tries to leave due to not wanting anything to do with his old life style and avoiding going back to prison after already spending half of his life behind bars. The son chases him down make’s up some story like in most thrillers and convinces Foley to go back to his house with him so they can talk. Then Eric supposedly wants to know about his dad and why Foley (Samuel L. Jackson) killed him, but pretending that he never liked his father and is just curious. Then from here on out the movie really gets going and is twist after twist full of suspenseful action (I won’t say anymore since I do not want to spoil the movie).
The Samaritan was a very interesting movie with lots of twist and plots. Like a true thriller this movie keeps you on edge, due to every action leading into a new twist which leads into another twist. Most thrillers you can instantly figure out how the movie is going to climax and end, but finally they came out with a original thriller in which your never to sure what is going to happen next. I give this movie 3 1/2 stars out of five, if your a fan of thrillers and or Samuel L. Jackson you should defiantly view this film. This is defiantly a film to see in theatres if you like this genre.
The film is a fiction thriller. The point of the movie as I said earlier is that your never really given a fresh start and the past always comes back to haunt you.
