Kung Fu Panda 2 (3D) (Yuh, 2011): USA

Saturday’s screening of Puss N’ Boots made me feel very unwelcomed- a full grown adult in a jungle of kids running around, crowding the popcorn and 3D glasses lines.  Nevertheless, having spoken directly with Kung Fu Panda 2’s Producer, Melissa Cobb at the Women’s Panel a week prior, I felt an obligation to watch this movie in 3D at the Arlington Theater, whatever the cost at the hands of the sea of rascals.

Thankfully, Sunday’s showing was not as chaotic as Saturday’s.  The staff and volunteers were able to quickly usher one to their seats, with a free bag of popcorn and soda pop of your choice.  After putting on the 3D glasses and waiting for the kids to settle down, (or be told to settle down by their parents), the movie was on its way.

While I cannot describe the rapture of color, animation, and special effects in this movie, I have to say this is one of my favorite 3D movies of all time – the purples, the reds and oranges and the depth of perception and detail are riveting.  From the animation stand point, I absolutely love the transformation of Po, as depicted by Jack Black, a pussilanimous Panda who fantasizes of being a legendary Dragon Warrior, to the fierce warrior he becomes following the pain of wanting to discover his history, as well as that pain that follows from knowing the truth about his roots.  As expected, there is a third rendition of Kung Fu Panda rumored, and, like the first two, it should not disappoint.
