Samsara (Ron Fricke, 2011): USA
Reviewed by Krista Marquez, Santa Barbara Film Festival
Sand mandalas, colorfully meticulous; destroyed in the end.
Green fields adorned with far east brown temples; mass martial arts school: black and red.
Balinese dancers, eyes wide, clad in yellow; actions speak louder than words.
The Kaaba Stone within the Great mosque, revolving with men dressed in white,
The wheel of life, ever turning, are blessings of the universe.
Nepalese teetering on rock faces; meditation mount.
The Dome of the Rock, golden dome, holy rock, sits above Jerusalem,
Shanty towns, high rise luxury.
Houses full of sand, cars in trees; homes bearing the weight of the supernatural.
Chicken factories, pig plantations; meat mechanically separated.
Beauty through truth and wisdom, though not always conventional beauty.
