An Awkward Sexual Adventure (Sean Garridy, 2012): Canada

This film was hilarious! i viewed this film at the metro 4 theater for the SBIFF. Before the film started, we were introduced to the director, Sean Garridy, the writer and main character in the film, Jonas Chernick, and his friend in the film Vik Sahay. I caught myself laughing throughout the entire film. It is definitely something people should see if they enjoy screwball comedies. The film was interesting in the fact that the title explains everything. You know there’s going to be a sexual awkward adventure and the way the director and the actors portrayed this was outlandishly amusing.

The cinematography was unique with some of the camera angles being different and I thought it was filmed very well. Some shots that stood out to me were during the opening scene when hes cutting all the fruit and making food for his girlfriend, also the shot where the camera is in the  bedroom and kitchen with the awkward breakup explanation. My favorite scenes would have to be the airport scene where Jordan is waiting for  Rachel to arrive at the airport and the airport boarding employee is giving him a hard time over the loud speaker. Also the scene where Jordan gets out of the shower and the cameras on the other side of the room. It then moves a few feet to the left bringing the hair trimmer into the picture where all you can see is the trimmer and Jordan in the frame.Then his friend, Dandak, turning it on and the sound of the razor. Such a great scene.

In the film, “An Awkward Sexual Adventure” the opening scene is Jordan, main character, having sex with his girlfriend, Rachel, while she is trying to sleep.In this very awkward scene, its almost silence besides the bed having a very faint squeaking noise. When this first scene comes on, the entire theater was hysterical. After this scene the next morning i got a kick out of how Jordan made sure everything for the breakfast was perfect like cutting the fruit into stars and having the eggs and bacon as a smiley face. immediately after he brings breakfast in bed, Rachel breaks up with him simply because hes not good in bed. The scene where Jordan cant understand why Rachel is breaking up with him was also amusing. He says he would work on anything she didn’t like but Rachel rattles off all the things she couldn’t stand about him, giving the audience and Jordan her final answer…its over. After this Jordan goes on a trip to Toronto paid by his company and is worried about making Rachel jealous with pictures with other women. He then meets a stripper, Julia, where she was forced to take Jordan home after being too drunk and kicked out of the club. this is where their fling starts. It was definitely worth my time seeing and i highly recommend it if your looking to have a few good laughs.
