Amy Adams, Cinema Vanguard Award-The Arlington Theater
Reviewed by Linda Mccomb Viewed at the Arlington Theater
The Cinema Vanguard Award was created in order to recognize an actor or actress who took risks in their films and made significant and unique contributions to their craft. This year’s recipient was Amy Adams. Notable films she was in this year include The Master and Trouble With the Curve.
The show began with a montage of Adam’s films. Afterwards, Amy came out and began her interview. She had a very easy way about her and was very humble when talking about herself. She started by telling the audience of how she grew up and how dance played a very important role in her life. I enjoyed listening to her stories about her earlier years as a struggling actress because it made her very easy to relate to. She admitted she had once worked at Hooters and what that was like. At one point when she was unsure of her future in an acting career she almost left Hollywood. It was at that time that she booked “Catch Me If You Can”. She then went on to talk about her role in the movie Junebug, and how that too was a time she almost gave up. Junebug was a real turning point in her career. Clips were played from this movie and Adams became very emotional, tears streaming down her face. She went on to explain how this film was very personal to her and there were very few dry eyes in the house.
Amy then went on to discuss some of her other films and at the end of the night her director from The Master presented her with the award. He expressed his gratitude for Amy and told her how she was a joy to work with. Adams humbly blushed while accepting the award and exited just as gracefully as she had entered. I enjoyed this whole experience and it made me like Amy Adams even more.
