Doomsday Book (Pil-sung Yim, 2012) South Korea

It is most definitely a Sci-Fi/Fantasy film. A recent addition to our list of zombie/apocalyptic world. About the what could happen.
When I first saw this in Best Buy, then at Fry’s Electronics, I wanted to get it. Until just this recently, I found it while browsing through Netflix. Awesome! I did not have to waste money buying the dvd.
It turned out to be a pretty good movie. I enjoyed the 1h and 53 min film.
It contains 3 different stories created by the same director, Pil-sung Yim. All three take place in South Korea, and all three show the what could happen with our near future, a series of 3 stories.
The first is of zombies, when meat goes bad and we get millions of meat lovers getting the mad cow disease turning them into the walking dead. The main character is shown, a bit funny at the beginning, his family makes him take out the recycling and trash, we are shown at how disgusting it all is. Soon, his family then decides to go on vacation leaving him to take care of the place while they are gone. He works at a meat place, chopping and eating cow. He takes his hot date out to his job, eats beef like no tomorrow, takes a walk in the park, run into a couple stupid kids harassing them, they beat him up, he comes out of nowhere and beats them up. His girlfriend notices something odd about him and runs off, soon the place is getting really bad.Near the end, his family comes home, he bites them, escapes and joins the rest, finds his girlfriend, they seem to share this odd love, zombie love.
The second is of robots. Somewhere in the film the yr 2017 is mentioned and we are introduced to a very advanced robot, similar looking to the robots out of “Irobot”. It takes place in a Buddhism temple where the people there think the robot is Buddha, technicians and the corporate boss guy come by in a wheel chair and cane, trying to talk sense into the people, explaining how robots have but one purpose in the human race, it is to take and obey orders.
The third is a bit funny, and kind of weird. A little girl’s 8 ball purchase through the internet threatens to wipe out the entire human race, or maybe just South Korea. We are introduced to the family, a husband and wife, an uncle and a little girl. The little girl’s uncle is about to have another birthday, and so she is trying to order him an 8 ball, she places her birthday and initials on the back of it. We are then changed between cameras as we watch an 8 ball rolling down a concrete hill, and then into a steaming hole, at which we assume is through earth and into space. We are then watching a series of odd news channels, one after the other, the newscasters become more and more animated as they do a countdown of the 8 ball coming at us in the form of a 10km asteroid. The little girl and her family live and survive under ground in a type of basement where in order to generate light and energy, they exercise on running mills. The little girl realizes the ball is hers once the news shows a picture of the symbols, at which the other people assume aliens have marked, and tries to explain to her family of her insane internet order. They think its their fault for playing too much billiards. Her uncle on the other hand tries to hack the internet and stop it. They stop it only for a short time, hit another wrong button and brace themselves. 10 yrs later, they still live in the basement, their hair is overgrown, and the little girl is all grown up. They have what seems like an earthquake, the girl goes outside, and we are introduced to an alien, which then takes off. The film ends with the family going outside, the world is “Dead”, the giant 8 ball is there, and subtitles show “Happy Birthday”..
The acting is good, make-up and camera views are all good, I thought the movie was pretty good. Though the robot one was kind of boring.
