Nebraska (Alexander Payne, 2013):USA

Reviewed by Jim Saell. Viewed at AFI Film Fest 2013.

When they presented the movie and before it started, they had an interview with Bruce Dern (who plays woody grant) about his life and how he became an actor. But what I reacted to was that the movie was going to be in Black and white, no colors. Since I’m not a to huge fan of black and white movies I got a little bit disappointed when it started. But god I was so wrong and after a while I didn’t even think about that the movie was in black and white.
Woody is an old man who starts to lose his mind, we can tell by the first scene when woody is out and walking on the freeway when I cop suddenly stops him. The cop explains that woody can’t walk on the side of the freeway but all woody says is that he has to go to Nebraska to hand in his check of a million dollar that he had won online. He gets back home and try to convince his son David Grant (Will Forte) to go with him to Nebraska, and so he does.

A really good movie for me is when the director/cast brings out the emotional parts of me. And this movie really did. But the things I found emotional was not only one or two things, but the whole movie in general. The music and soundtracks was brilliant put together along with the great acting by almost every actor but especially Bruce Dern and June Squibb (Kate Grant).  Bruce really did bring out the emotional part of me, not just that he is a good actor but i could also see similar thing with my life.
I would really recommend this Comedy/drama film to everyone above 15 years old. A very touching but at the same time funny movie that’s in no colors.
