Violet ( Luiso Berdejo, 2013) USA, Spain
Violet is a film written and directed by Luiso Berdejo. Violet is not the particular movie that we are use to see from Luiso. He is mostly known for his horror movies, such as Rec (2007) Quarantine (2008). Violet are the complete opposite from that.
Alex is about a young man from Spain who lives in Santa Monica and one day he finds a Polaroid photo of a young beautiful woman and he falls in love with her instantly. Alex decides that he is going to try to find this girl, even though he has no clue who she is, where she is or when the photo was taken.
5 is a girl who is one of Alex’s best friends. Together they are trying to find the girl in the picture, even though 5 obviously have feelings for Alex.
Most of the film was shot handheld, which I like. It makes it feel more like you are there with then and more personal. Something that I cannot really decide if I like or not, was the dream sequence where they decided to shot with a low-resolution camera to separate the dream from the reality. I totally understand that you want your dream sequence to look different from the rest. But choosing to shoot it with a crap-quality camera is not what I would have done.
I’m not too sure that I would recommend this movie to my friends. The story wasn’t that strong and it isn’t that interesting to watch.
