ReMoved (Nathanael Matanick 2013): USA

A short drama film in the screening for “Short dramatic shorts”.
This is a true story that Nathanael Matanick and Christina Matanick wanted to share.
It’s a short drama film about a girl who navigates her way through foster care.
The 10-year-old girl struggles with a family trauma caused by her crazy dad.
Nathanael and Christina made this film from an experience they have had.
This 13-minutes story is touching and it really got me thinking.
How people can get affected by your own and other’s drinking.
We see how a innocent child can’t do anything to change the situation.
How a parent how to understand a child’s frustration.
I think Nathanael also wanted to show how a little fight can turn into madness.
The desaturated shots and sad music created the feeling of sadness.
It is filmed in beautiful environments with a lot of nature around.
Excellent Mise en scéne, soft focus and sound.
But the slow motions scenes, multiple reaction shots and constant narration
gives a whole different style and creates another interpretation.
It is more of a educational film and, I don’t think it turned out the way Nathanael wanted it to be.
I am sorry to say, but it looks like a commercial to me.
