Three Monkeys (Nuri Bilge Ceylan, 2008): Turkey/France/Italy
Reviewed by Kevin Tran. Viewed at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.
These are stills from Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s film Three Monkeys
The most beautiful film of this decade
Notice the composition and contrast of Gokhan Tiraki’s stunning images
Moody, but interesting / Subtle, yet powerful
Outstandingly slow paced / Long shots uncut for minutes upon minutes
Plot thrown out the window / Reminiscent of early Jarmusch
Seemingly unimportant scenes are about character’s attitude and behavior
If you like these images…
Imagine 24 frames per second of a 109-minute film
