Jasmine ( Cate Blanchett ) lives a surface carefree life with dream house , charitable commitment and luxurious dinner party in New York’s finest neighborhoods . When her husband, financier Hal ( Alec Baldwin ) , is arrested after having been behind major financial fraud rages Jasmine’s world together.

Total Scourged and flat broke , she seeks fresh hope with her adoptive sister Ginger ( Sally Hawkins ) in San Francisco. Jasmine makes vague attempts to adjust to his sister far more bohemian life but the scars after losing everything turns out to be deeper and more difficult to handle than expected. Blanchett is phenomenally good nervous wreck Jasmine that washes down the Depression with scary amounts of Vodka Martini.

Superb performances are also delivered by the remaining cast and stand out also makes the UK -born Sally Hawkins, who struggles with her sister’s misery as she tries to overcome on their own relationship problems. Bobby Cannavale makes a charming role as Ginger’s hotheads on / off boyfriend Chili and near tears warning when he visits gingers job and desperately bares his love for her. A real star, as usual, is also Peter Saarsgard ( by including ” Jarhead ” and ” An Education “), who plays the wealthy widower Dwight which may act Jasmine’s rebound after the two met at a party.

One thing is certain . Woody Allen is a whiz at that stuff with fiery and honest depictions of life and some scenes tops all expectations with perfectly timed lines and great conviction . It’s hard to forget the gun wielding volcanic eruption Penélope Cruz in ” Vicky , Cristina, Barcelona” from 2008 and ” Blue Jasmine ” offers similar interaction , constantly balancing on the desperation breaking point .

As in , inter alia, ” Midnight in Paris ” and ” Vicky , Cristina, Barcelona” is Allen also a fin on his personal depiction of cities . Above all is the scenes from San Francisco , which represents the major part of the film, very nice and feels quite intimate . His recent work has in my opinion been somewhat uneven but this time it really works the typical and well-tested story template of various human destinies are united .

Blue Jasmine is almost a direct hit .
