Before Midnight (Richard Linklater, 2013): USA
Reviewed by Vera-Luana Dubach. Viewed at the Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbara.
The first movie about Celine and Jesse “Before Sunrise” came out 1995. Nine years later the second movie “Before Sunset” followed and 2013 the third one “Before Midnight” came out. The film got 9 wins and 18 nominations also for the Oscar. The movies belong to the genre Drama/Romance.
Jesse and Celine spend Family vacations with their two daughters in Greek at Jesse’s writers friends place. It’s been already a while since Jesse and Celine spend some time by them self. They have a lot of time to talk. A lot of things they kept for them self all this years is spoken out loud until their conversation turns into a fight.
Overall the movie is just a big dialogue. Very long shots just Jesse and Celine talking. The script and the acting are the best parts of the film. Their conversation feels so real it seems like you are following a couple listening what they’re talking.
Before Midnight is a movie especially for couples who maybe already have their own children. I’m sure a lot of people will see a little of them self in couple Jesse and Celine.
