Virtuosos Awards 2014

Attended by Dennis Hansson at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

At the Virtuosos award, we got to see Jared Leto, Michael B. Jordan, June Squibb and blbalbla for breakout performances during the year.

Jared Leto is a familiar face in Hollywood, as he both acts and has his own rock band 30 seconds to mars, and has appeared in several great movies, such as Requiem for a dream, and now Dallas Buyers club which he also has been nominated for an Academy award for.

Michael B. Jordan got the award for his performance in Fruitvale station, which is about a day in the life of a african-american man who tragically got shot at the Fruitvale station in the Bay-area.

June Squibb is 84 years old and is starring in the 6 academy award nominated movie Nebraska, including best actress for an actress in a supporting role.

Brie Larson got the award for her outstanding performance in the movie Short Term 13.

One of the most things I had look forward to was this night. I am a huge fan of Jared Leto and the conversation with him before he got to accept the award was really interesting. He talked about his part as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club, where he plays a homosexual transvestite with HIV. Someone in the audience felt the need to make a very stupid and ignorant comment that went something like: ”A man shouldn’t be able to win an Academy award dressed as a woman. It’s wrong!”, to who he replied to in a very professional way that only made the stupd person in the audience look even more stupid. I do not remember exactly what was said, but Jared’s reply made the audience applaud him. Besides from that akward moment, the conversation that followed was very interesting, and you got a chance to see the artist Jared Leto, a superprofessional artist who doesn’t turn down any creative challenges.

Overall, it was a good night, where I got more insight in the persons behind these powerful characters that we see in the movies and I thought it was really interesting to hear all these gifted actor’s point of view.
