Relatos Salvajes (Wild Tales) (Damián Szifron, 2014): Argentina, Spain
Saturday 7th, 2015, I was more than glad to have the chance to get a sit in the Lobero theater for the last screening, on the last day of the Santa Barbara Film Festival, of Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes). It was my favorite movie of the whole festival.
This movie was written and directed by the Argentinian director Damián Szifron. It is not a spoiler to say that this featured film is composed of six different shorts in which, each of the stories are about revenge or justice . Pasternak, The Rats, The Strongest, Little Bomb, The Proposal, and Until death do us part are stories about love deception, the return of the past, a tragedy, or even the violence contained in an everyday detail. Characters are going to loose control of their emotions.
Pasternak: two passengers of a plane discover that they know a man named Pasternak: the girl was his former girlfriend, and the man was a music critic that made a bad review on him . A little bit later they found out that everyone in the plane know Pasternak .
The Rats: A woman recognized a man she thinks ruined her family entering in the restaurant she is working as a waitress . The cook proposes her revenge.
The Strongest: two men driving cars on a lone highway trying to prove their ego by racing with their cars. Later on, one of them get a flat tire; the other man park next to him , but not to offer his help.
Little Bomb: A man’s car is towed away for parking while he’s picking up the cake for his daughter’s birthday. The man is a demolition expert, he is going to use his skills to get revenge .
The Proposal:A young adolescent of a rich family hits a pregnant women one night while driving. He tells his parents when arriving home. They are going to find someone they can blame it on.
Until death do us part: A woman discovers, the night of the wedding, her husband had sex with his co-worker which attend the wedding.
The cinematography, and the editing were wonderful. The building of all those little stories together is really well done. Damián Szifron did an amazing job on this feature film. Wild Tales is nominated for the Oscar of Best Foreign Language Film of the Year .
My two favorite were the first one and the last one , Pasternak and Until death do us part . The plots were amazing.
I really recommend it !!!
