Desert Dancer

A another artistic movie which follows the structure of a typical hollywood movie. I am surprise that how dance is ban in Iran. I like how they use this obstacle as the conflict of the movie. Besides that, the dance was well done, but I didn’t see much correlations between the choreography and the story.

Mise-en-scene: very intimidating. it fits the story, they film mostly in the school campus and a desert, costumes are mostly black and darker color, reflect the shadow they lives under the ban of the government. acting is very intense, they are very good dancers especially we see the single perform at the end of the movie.

Cinematography: very beautifully well done. I love how the camera tracks their movement while they dance. there are some fairly long takes, mostly tight shots. it has potentials to be better or interesting, but there wasn’t any dull moments.

Editing: very professionally done. like all the other movies has good editing, it doesn’t feel like the movies has been editing, just like we are watching it and story moves forward very smoothly. although, overall, it’s a bit dull and predictable. for example, at the scene when the police chase the dancers in desert, I had already seen it’s coming.

Sounds: could be better, it fits the story and goes with the choreography. But, not many songs or sound tracks are very memorable.  It’s a dancing theme movie,  the music should be more sensational, not just simply fits the story.

Narrative: as I said, it follows the standard hollywood film, It has the 1st act: set up that how impossible to dance, then we see the whole 2nd act they are struggling to pursue dancing life and love, then finally the 3rd act shows the result that he got people’s attention and change the situation in Iran. would be nice if they can have something different and outstanding. but very slow pace which is one if the feature of the film.
