1. Conrad Lightfoot 03.07.16 / 4pm

   This was a very unique technique to review the film Knight of Cups. I have never seen a movie review similar to this, so it was fun to attempt to interpret your pictures as a proper review and interpret the plot of it. I believe that this could be a new method to review films, as it engages the reader and allow them to analyze the pictures for themselves. I enjoyed your use of different settings to portray different scenes, as it was very creative and distinctive. I hope to see more reviews similar to this because it makes me curious about what the movie was truly about and would enjoy to see Christian Bale substitute your foot.

   I have not seen this movie yet, but I will undoubtedly go watch it now, and refer back to your review afterwards. I am extremely curious as to how well your foot depicted parts of the film. Love the unique approach to writing a movie review, and I have to admit I am more anxious to see how these feet relate to the movie, than the actual movie itself. I do have to say though that the picture of The Tower was actually a quite nice picture. Thanks for the wonderful review, I look forward to watching the movie and discovering the cleverness behind your pictures!

   I have never seen nor heard of this film but I am extremley curious about it after seeing this review. I love the fact that you did not take the traditional route most people take when writing this review. The creative approach that you took makes me very intrijued to see what it is all about. Is really bad? Incredibly boring? Nothing like you have ever seen before? I really want to know how your right foot relates to the film. I will definitley be watching it when it comes out.

   As a lover of Thin Red Line and Tree of Life I think this is spot on! Great work, this is impressive because while it is teasing and a bit on the SNL side of reviews I do believe I see some love in there. Perhaps you didn’t think twice while shooting this but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a map detailing which shots of feet would personify which character. Perhaps this exactly why Terrance is so lovable, it’s ridiculous but absolutely charming. In all honesty I’d love to see more interpretive reviews like this.

   This is a hilarious way to point out the pretentiousness of the film. I think a lot of directors can get caught up in style over substance, and Malick is no different. His style is very distinct: close ups and constantly moving camera convey the vigor of life pretty well but it can also be distracting. I haven’t seen Knight of Cups, but I have seen The Tree of Life and it seems like you’re getting at the same issue that many had with that film. Malick eschews narrative and coherence in favor of poeticism and philosophy. I think there needs to be more than that, something that we can relate to and engage with, and its disappointing to see Malick waste his visual talent because he doesn’t know how to write.

   Well this was the most interesting review I have ever seen! I liked it haha. I will be taking your advice and never watching this film because it doesn’t seem to interesting. I wonder how someone can put so much time into something like a film and not complete a story like you said after The Tower. I have seen films like this and it is very frustrating to say the least. I feel like a lot of comedy sequels that come out are like that. They force everyone to try to laugh and it never works.

   Interesting to say the least! I think the director has to many moves to quickly. Basically, I did find it interesting that the 8 Tarot cards are referenced in this film, other than that I have to give it a thumbs down.

   It’s been a few years since seeing this film at the Arlington, but it was certainly memorable and I think this review is spot on! Maybe Knight of Cups could be considered experimental, it certainly didn’t follow a classic narrative. I developed no empathy for Bale’s character so I didn’t care for him, in fact I didn’t like him at all. The mise-en-scene and cinematography was attractive and overwhelming which was nice for the first 15 minutes but the overall “narrative” was so unconventional I just wasn’t prepared for it. The form Terrance Malick used just wasn’t suitable for a full length film. It felt like a never-ending Giorgio Armani commercial.
