“The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” is the movie which background is in the Southwest during the Civil War. The good, the bad, and the ugly are three people. The director builds up their personalities by giving three different stories at the beginning of the story. Actually, the three stories somehow are connected with each other. The connection of the three stories is the clue that can combine the three guys into one story. The missing gold leads them to meet each other. This is actually how the drama starts.
The director gives the three guys different personalities, but they are all interesting people. Joe is a mysterious stranger, the Angel Eyes is a ruthless bounty hunter, and Tuco is a Mexican outlaw, they are “the good, the bad, and the ugly”. Although they are different, they actually have one thing in common, that is all of the three like money, they want to find the missing gold. This is also the reason why these three can meet each other.
The plot is so clear and obvious. It is how the three try to find the missing gold that is buried in the desert. The bad is completely bad, the good isn’t completely good, and the ugly is between the bad and the good. When the three different personalities meet, they can create funny but violent scenes. The three together make the story extraordinary.
The way the director tells the story is funny, especially when “the good” meet “the ugly”. “The good” rescue the bad just as he is being hanged because “the good” want the reward money. After both of them gets the reward money, “the good” leave “the ugly” in the desert. “The ugly” survived, and then he tries to find “the good’ because he wants the revenge. The two guys re-team abruptly finally because “the good” have the clue about the $20,000 gold that a soldier buried in the desert. “The bad” finds out the two guys know the clue about the missing gold and wants to join them because “the ugly” presents that he is the “Bill Carson” who “the bad” is looking for. The director makes the three guys finally meet in a dramatic way, funny but violence. The movie quotes are funny although the situation is tense. For example, when a guy tries to shot “the ugly” but being killed by “the ugly”, “the ugly” said, “Shot when you want to shot, don’t talk.”
The music composed by Ennio Morricone is really standing out in this movie. Sometimes the music is funny, but sometimes it is tensive. The time when the bad is beating the ugly, the background music is people singing genteelly. Then scene switch between the instruments playing and people singing to the scary scene. It makes audiences feel more intensive.
