Holy Camp! ( Javier Ambrossi, Javier Calvo, 2017): Spain

Review by Breana Jimenez Viewed at The Santa Barbara Film Festival, 2018.

Holy Camp! was one of the most original films I’ve seen in a very long time. Maria finds herself in a courtship with the one and only man himself, God. Set at a camp run by nuns with the main four ladies alone a lot happens.

When God tries to serenade her with Whitney Houston Maria finds her old party girl ways to be tired. There is then a lot of conflict between Maria and her best friend Susanna when she quits their group to pursue God. This movie is very funny, vibrant and quite fantastical. Leave all your pretenses of what to except from this film at the door, I can promise you a fun and wild ride. It requires you to step out of your comfort zone and to believe in the divine, literally.

It is rather witty and technically well done. The cinematography is beautiful. This film is hard to describe, it truly is something you have to witness yourself. Enjoy this wacky musical I promise there is nothing like it.
