The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Andrew Dominik, 2007): USA
The whole biography/crime/drama/western of The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford really was put together nicely. The cast was amazing and undoubtedly will sky rocket to the top films of the box office once it releases a month from now. The performance done by Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck were by far the best roles for them to portray. This two hour and forty-five minute film creates a wonderful plot of the wild west and the legend of Jesse James.
It’s a no-brainer that this film had received so many awards already: CFCA Award, DFWFCA Award, FFCC Award, NBR Award, NSFC Award, SFFCC Award, and the Satellite Award. The mise-en-scene was done with elegant costumes and gorgeous lighting straight out of the time frame that captures the imagination within the wild west element. The cinematography was done with quick shots and soft focus through extreme long shots. Eye Matching was created to provided a dramatic effect done by Curtis Clayton and Dylan Tichenor the editors. The music was done by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis which created suspense.
The narrative was very detailed which is why it was such a long of a film. The writers; Andrew Dominik and Ron Hansen really went into depth of the characters especially the character, Robert Ford. The story even continues after the assassination of Jesse James with the conclusion of Robert Ford.
Anymore details given away would be a crime, I would definitely watch this film again and recommend it to to others. Even those who aren’t that big on westerns, such as myself, should see it.
