See the source imageAs stated in the beginning, life in space is not nearly but actually impossible, however, as magnificently presented in the film there is always another way to achieve the practically inconceivable. Touching on the power of blind faith and higher will, we follow main character Dr. Ryan Stone into darkness that initiates a process of healing from the past in an effort to survive and redefine the future.

Oscar nominated director Alfonso Cuaron creates a  science fiction film masterpiece adventure that you as the viewer embark on. Through the stunning cinematography of carefully crafted camera angles it’s as if we become a part of the movie, and in some cases through the lenses of your 3D glasses, even take on the role of Dr. Stone herself played by Sandra Bullock.

When a mission to fix a satellite goes awry in the stark nothingness of space, it becomes a physical and physiological battle of Dr. Stone. Faced with obstacle after obstacle she breaks down personal barriers as she is challenged in her determination to survive. Most unforgettably, her guide and grounding figure Captain Matt Kowalski depicted by George Clooney, guides her throughout the film as she floats completely detached by teaching her the valuable lesson of letting go. Kowalski is able to show her the beauty we so often forget when overcome by fear and by releasing it you will find a strength where you once thought there was only weakness.

A film about absolute surrender of the mind and into the unknown has never been so clearly yet creatively shown before. Expressed through such an unexplored concept as outer space it points to the immense amount of “space” in our own mind, to be conquered one step and a time. If you like the idea of being taken out of your everyday thoughts and lead through a story of survival beyond what we think possible, you might consider putting on a pair of 3D glasses yourself to enter into the universe of infinite potentiality.
