On the opening night for the Santa Barbara International Film Festival,  the director Mimi DeGruy and her children had the privilege to present to the audience the documentary they made to honor their beloved husband and father, “Diving Deep: The Life and Times of Mike deGruy”.

The documentary not only showed the audience who were present for the opening night the issues we are having with our ocean that no one seems to care about or even know because of lack of communication with the public but on the bright side it also showed his passion he had for under the sea. Not only did Mike capture clips of creatures that have never been seen but as he was doing something he truly loved he was able to show the big issue our sea creatures are dealing with on a daily basis without the public doing anything to help change that.

This film was a well thought narrative that provides all thew details we need to know about Mike deGruy to get a better understanding. Even after the attack injury he suffered in the ocean, he was still motivated to going back into the sea and exploring even more. As his wife, Mimi deGruy tells the story, it feels like you’re there physically living theses moments with this incredible filmmaker.
