The Thomas Crown Affair (Norman Jewison 1968) USA

One of the great things about film festivals or at least the SBIFF is that guest directors get to come in and showcase some of their favorite movies at the Film Festival. We had the privilege to watch Norman Jewison’s 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair.

I had never actually seen this movie. I knew what it was about because I had seen the 1999 version with Pierce Brosnen and Rene Russo. This movie was awesome and I fell in love with the character Vicki Anderson played by Faye Dunaway.

The Thomas Crown Affair is about the tale of a self-made millionaire, McQueen, who decides that he has been a member of the Establishment long enough. With the help of aides who never actually meet him, Thomas Crown, played by McQueen arranges a brilliant bank robbery that nets millions. McQueen pays off his assistants and banks the remainder, almost $3 million, in Switzerland. The bank’s insurance company then ends up paying off the loss, then assigns its number one investigator, Vicki Anderson played by Faye Dunaway, to the case. A love interest evolves between Thomas Crown and Vicki Anderson to add to the flavor of the movie.

Overall this was a very refreshing classic film that was easy to watch, enjoyable, and action packed. Its was a great experience to watch a classic on the big screen, an opportunity that most don’t have. If you didn’t get a chance to watch the showing at the SBIFF I recommend a trip to Blockbuster to see this Classic.
