Carnage (Roman Polanski, 2011): France/Germany/Poland

Carnage is a film about two sets of parents trying to resolve an issue between an altercation their sons had which resulted in Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly’s son having his face gashed when Kate Winslet and Christopher Waltz’s son bashes him with a stick.   All but 5 minutes of the movie are in the house of Reilly and Foster in which they banter back and forth about the severity of the issue.  Well written and a great comedy given the whole movie is in one location.   I think it’s a very hard thing to keep the audience intrigued while making sure to not drag out excessively.  Every time the parents go to part ways someone says something to get the other couple all fired-up leading to another 10 minute argument between the two families.  Overall I was thoroughly impressed with Polanski’s film even if I have mixed feelings toward the director myself.
