As part of The 2012 SBCC Film Review Screening Series we were proud to partner with The SBCC Glee Club for a musical performance/screening of Chicago. Be sure to check out the video of SBCC Glee performing “Rumor Has Is” below.

At the beginning of the decade a resurgence of movie musicals started, hitting it’s stride with the 6-time Oscar-winning Chicago. Based on Bob Fosse’s iconic Broadway musical and taken from a mix of fact and fiction, including a 1942 film starring Ginger Rogers, Chicago is a story of sex, murder and jazz in the 1920’s era metropolis.

Starring Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere, Chicago tells the stories of two worlds. The first world is the real world, where Roxie Hart has just been arrested for murdering her lover. The second world is a night club in Roxie’s mind, where she and those around her are presented in a fantastical stage show. Using exquisite cinematography, lighting and mise-en-scene Chicago brings all the qualities of great cabaret show to the screen.

Featuring classic show tunes like “Razzle Dazzle”, “All That Jazz” and “The Cell-Block Tango”, Chicago is two hours of modern musical mixed with classical stage design. At this particular screening SBCC Film Reviews was pleased to welcome The SBCC Glee Club. After performing outside The Luria Library, the club graciously joined us for the screening.
